What were some of your experiences and what are some tips for pre med major?

April 42010

I already have BA and I want to attempt pre med. What are some things I should keep in mind? What were your experiences?
Useful Tips for MCAT?

ANything and everything would be helpful.

Pre-med is not a major. More generally it is like a program. Theoretically one does not even need a B.A. or B.S. to be admitted to a Medical School; they particularly need only 90 college credits and prerequisite courses. 2 years of chemistry (general through organic with labs), 1 year of physics with labs, 1 year of biology, a biology lab course, and often calculus; some schools do not require it. Getting into med-school is difficult, so the best tip I can give you is to study all of the time.

What experiences have you had of transition of your child to work or college?

April 22010

If you are the parent of a young person who has learning difficulties, what experiences have you had in trying to get them into work or day/residential college? Is there anything that can make this experience better?

First, make sure that the child’s IEP is up to date and appropriate prior to leaving high school. Since this is no longer an exit requirement per the IDEA (the law for IEPs), it’s important that you ask for this.
Second, your child’s IEP plan should include a transition plan from age 16 on. That transition plan is whether they are going to college or going into the work force or whatever. This transition plan should include having the appropriate people from the college represented at the IEP meeting OR having someone from the high school obtain a good working knowledge of the information that is needed. THIS is the most important part as this is what will provide a smooth transition as far as the student having a working relationship with the disability services office at the college and their having a knowledge of your child’s needs.
Third, making sure that the child is prepared as far as taking him to audit a class a couple of times so he sees how the classrooms are run, going through his schedule and when he has to be where and what he can do inbetween classes, and getting him familiar with the library and library staff which is invaluable!!
Best of luck!

What have been your experiences with Victoria’s Secret online shopping?

March 312010

I am looking to buy a jacket, sweaters, maybe coat, from VS online, since retail stores do not carry these items. But I am doubtful about the quality and size and wondering if it’s worth the risk, with having to pay for shipping and possibly returns. Has anyone ordered from them before and what have been your experiences?
Thanks in advance!

I’ve had good experiences so far. The clothes are quality… maybe a little over priced for some items but not for others. The clothes I’ve ordered have tended to run a little small, so to be on the safe side I always order one size larger than what I normally wear. Other than sizing, my experiences have been good. Just make sure you become familiar with their return/exchange policies before you order so that you do not run into any surprises if you want to return or exchange an item

What are you good and bad learning experiences?

March 272010

I am making a poster on good and bad learning experiences for college.
It would be a great help if you could answer the question above.
What have you found best for learning and the worst for learning?
What distracts you and what encourages you?
Do you learn better in different environments and if so which ones?
Can you give examples of times when you have had a good learning experience or even a bad one?
Thanks a bunch everyone :)

distractions are:

peers
forms of entertainment like video games, internet, etc
dilapidated rooms
big number of students in the room
family problems

motivations are:
- good grades / awards/honors
- bright future
- nice job
-realization of dreams
- boyfriends and girlfriends are inspiration too as well as our families

What are people’s experiences of conceiving after coming off birth control pill?

March 252010

i have been on the combined pill for over 3 years and then went onto the mini pill cerazette for just over 2 months. I stopped taking any birth control from the 1st august. Are they many people out there who conceived in their first month coming off the pill? Is there any way of knowing when it is most likely i ovulated after coming off? or will it vary a lot person to person? I’m just curious to know about other people’s experiences on conceiving after coming off the contraceptive pill. thank you!

I conceived immediately after stopping birth control both times. The third time, I conceived while still using birth control. lol
