April 142010

Former Moroccan citizen with lots of experience in Electrical Technician and is now an American Citizen looking for work in this field while going to school to learn the American electrical codes. Employers, how would you like to see his foreign experience listed on his resume? Would you count his 10+ years of foreign Building Electrical experience?

Is it OK to omit irrelevant job experience from my resume even if that creates time gaps?

April 122010

Which is worse? Leaving unaccounted time gaps on my resume or including unimpressive work experience?

Do a functional resume that highlights your skills. Then place a shorter section closer to the end that lists all of your jobs in chronological order so there are no gaps. That way you play up your strengths, but downplay (not omit) the stuff that isn’t needed.

How should I list my work experience on my resume for an engineering position?

April 82010

I am in my final year of school in engineering. I am working on updating my resume. I am looking for my first post graduate full time position. In the past I have separated my work experience in to technical and non technical. I have had 3 internships and 5 non career related jobs i.e. McDonalds, grocery store, Home depot, library etc. Should I still list these on my resume? I know a resume should only be one page and with all of those jobs it gets really cluttered. Also should I list activities (clubs) I was involved in during my first couple years that I am no longer apart of.

Thanks

I would list all the positions you have had and any experience that might apply to this new position (Even things such as customer service experience helps as an engineer, your customers are the co-workers you serve).
But I have never heard a resume should only be one page. In fact, my resume with my job expereinces, and educational experience is 5 pages.
You are new to the job market, list everything you have done and how long you were with those companies. Employers like stability.

How far back should I cite volunteer experience on a resume?

April 62010

I am writing a resume for a manager position for an organization that does volunteer work. This position is paid, the rest are volunteer based. The organization wants a resume detailing volunteer and leadership experience exclusivley. They dont care about work related experience or extracuricular stuff.

My question is how far back can I appropriatly list my experiences?

As far back as you can go!

Good luck!
