Has anyone ever done the Richard Petty Driving Experience?

May 252010

I am looking at either sending my fiance to Darlington or to Lowe’s MS. What should he expect?

Nothing against Darlington, but if I had to pick one over the other, I’d go to Lowe’s first. It’s a little less intimidating, and probably more fun. They’ll talk to him for a short time about what he’ll do, put a suit and helmet on him, eventually strap him in a car, and then he’ll get to do some laps. My first on track stock car experience was with Fast Track Racing School at Lowe’s under the lights. Very cool.

i have never done it but i have reaad about it. i heard they go about 200mph at like daytona or dega but i would pick lowe’s becuz u would g ofaster at darling ton but you might get more laps at there than lowe’s. i would go lowe’s though for the speed. just my opinion

I did the rookie experience with RPDE at Las Vegas in 2001. It was fun, but I’ve since learned that other lesser named schools will give you more seat time for less money. You pay for the Petty name. Search around there are lots of options. Oh and if you can afford buy more than the bottom tier package. I didn’t think I had enough laps at the Rookie Experience level.

Oh one other thing, I’ve also heard that they exagerate the speeds they tell you you’ve driven at RPDE…

I did the rpde and it is worth every cent they do not exagerate the speeds and they are very safe. They will get your gear and then a small class on what is about to go on then they take you around the track in a van and explain what you will be doing and then to the pits for pics and the best part DRIVING you can go for a ride but not with your fiance it will be with a professional driver and it will be at an additional cost. You two will have a great time. Bring a camcorder.

I got my dad the package at Dover a few years ago for his birthday. It was the Richard Petty one, but the one that Dover puts on…he enjoyed it.

I only got him the 10 lap package, but you go out for 2 laps as a ride along and then go out in a group of 4 or 5 on your own and race 10 laps
