2009 ASABE Int’l 1/4 Scale Tractor Student Design Competition Overview
June 132010
Sponsored by the American Society of Agricultural & Biological Engineers (ASABE), the International 1/4-Scale Tractor Student Design Competition provides university students with a “360-degree” design experience, unique among collegiate vehicle-design competitions, in which they must build a tractor from the ground up, documenting their market research, testing and development; presenting their design to a mock corporate management team; and demonstrating performance in a live tractor pull. Students gain invaluable professional experience, and industry representatives, many of whom serve as competition judges, are able to find top job recruits among the participants. The contest draws teams from across North America.
The University of Illinois Illini Pullers pulled off the ultimate this past May, breaking a multi-year Kansas State University winning streak by taking top honors at the 12th Annual ASABE International 1/4-Scale Tractor Student Design Competition, held May 28 – 31, in Peoria, IL. Rounding out the 2009 top five were, in order: Kansas State University, Purdue University, Iowa State University and Texas A & M University.
Corporate sponsors for the ASABE 12th Annual International 1/4-Scale Tractor Student Design Competition were AGCO, Bridgestone/Firestone, Briggs & Stratton, Case, Campbell Scientific, Inc, Caterpillar, John Deere, New Holland, SolidWorks and Titan International.
